50th LNMB Conference on the Mathematics of Operations Research, Soesterberg (NL)

Dear LNMB members, students, and affiliates,

LNMB cordially invites you to the 50th LNMB Conference on the Mathematics of Operations Research, held at the Conference Hotel Kontakt der Kontinenten in Soesterberg on 13–15 January 2025.

Come and enjoy the presentations from leading researchers, who discuss significant advancements in Operations Research. LNMB is honoured to present an outstanding lineup of keynote speakers, an extensive programme of presentations by LNMB PhD students, and the joint LNMB/NGB Seminar.

Conference website and registration

Explore the conference website for the programme, abstracts, speaker bios, and practical information: https://www.lnmb.nl/conferences/2025/

Registration is now open! Use the link below to register. Please note that a limited number of hotel rooms are reserved until mid-December. Room-sharing is available and reservations follow the traditional FCFS policy. https://www.aanmelder.nl/160508/registration

Keynote and invited speakers

This year’s keynote addresses will be delivered by:

A special celebratory session will feature:

The joint LNMB / NGB Seminar will host: Johan van Rooij (Utrecht University), Peter Hulsen (CQM), Bart Post (CQM), John Poppelaars (Doing the Math), Hein Fleuren (Tilburg University), Koen Peters (WFP Rome), Dennis Huisman (Erasmus University and NS), Erwin Abbink (NS), Tugce Martagan (TU/e), Coen Dirckx (TU/e and Merck), Bram van Ravenstein (Merck), Dick den Hertog (UvA), and Jaap Kwadijk (Deltares).

Programme features

The keynote lectures will highlight recent breakthroughs in fair learning and distributionally robust optimization (Daniel Kuhn), optimal queuing regimes and learning dynamics in games (Marco Scarsini), innovative inventory stocking and revenue management models (Huseyin Topaloglu), and advanced methods for solving challenging combinatorial problems in graph theory (Angelika Wiegele).

With 24 presentations by LNMB PhD students, the programme is rich in a variety of topics. Enjoy sessions on graphs and networks, stochastic programming, pricing, scheduling, control theory, decision models, energy systems, and more! Have a look at the PhD presentations schedule here. Qualifying PhD students will receive their LNMB Diploma on the second day.

The joint LNMB / NGB Seminar on the third day continues our tradition of connecting research in Operations Research with real-world applications. This year’s seminar highlights the success stories of the Dutch Operations Research community with past winners of the prestigious INFORMS Franz Edelman Award.

Do not miss the special session this year celebrating the conference’s golden jubilee! Two of the past LNMB directors, Prof. Dr. Willem Klein Haneveld and Prof. Dr. Johann Hurink, will take us on a memorable journey through the history of LNMB conferences.

The programme gives ample opportunity for informal discussions. Find the programme here and more information about the speakers here.

Sponsors

The conference is generously sponsored by ORTEC and NWO. The LNMB board is grateful to our sponsors for their continued support of Operations Research.

I look forward to welcoming you to our 50th LNMB conference!

Symposium on Decision Diagrams for Optimization

Friday November 22, 2024
Delft University of Technology

Decision diagrams have emerged over the last decade as a versatile and useful tool to represent and solve discrete optimization problems.  The aim of the symposium is to bring together researchers that are interested in methods, algorithms, theory, applications, and tools for optimization that are related to decision diagram technology.  Example topics include discrete optimization, integer programming, handling uncertainty, constraint programming, routing and scheduling, combinatorial optimization, machine learning, and more.

The symposium takes place in the beautiful city of Delft, the Netherlands, on the campus of Delft University of Technology.  It is open to anyone who is interested in attending, ranging from researchers that are established in this area to researchers that wish to learn more about this topic.  The symposium also particularly welcomes PhD students and postdocs, and there is no registration fee.

Please register on the website before November 8, 2024 to confirm your participation.

Mathematics of Gas Transport and Energy MOG 2024

We are pleased to announce the fourth edition of the international conference „Mathematics of Gas Transport and Energy MOG 2024″ on October, the 10th and 11th, 2024, in Regensburg, Germany.

The two-day conference aims at connecting leading experts in applied mathematics with leading stakeholders from the industry and the public sector that are concerned with the transition of the energy system. It aims at stimulating fruitful discussions between academic partners and representatives from other sectors on today´s broad challenges in the energy sector, taking into account the transition from natural gas to hydrogen networks, its coupling with electricity, and related topics. More information and registration (until 15 July 2024) is available under https://www.trr154.fau.de/mog2024/.

The conference is organized by the German Collaborative Research Center TRR154 („Mathematical Modelling, Simulation and Optimization using the Example of Gas Networks“) funded by the German Science foundation, see https://www.trr154.fau.de/trr-154-en/.

Regensburg is located at the Danube’s northernmost point, in between the Gäuboden region and the two low mountain ranges Fränkische Jura and Bayerischer Wald. The international airports Nuremberg and Munich are only a 60 minute drive away. Due to its unique status as „the only authentically preserved large medieval city in Germany“ the Old Town Regensburg with Stadtamhof“ was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2006.
