Behavioral Management Science

Behavioral Management Science investigates how real human behavior shapes operational decision-making and system performance. Our mission is to integrate behavioral insights into the modeling, analysis, and design of operations, supply chains, and service systems. We bring together researchers from operations research, management science, behavioral economics, information systems, and related disciplines.

The group focuses on settings where traditional operations research and management science models are informed by empirical evidence and theories from psychology, behavioral economics, and related fields. We welcome a broad range of methodological approaches, including analytical modeling, empirical studies, experiments, simulations, and field work. Application areas include, but are not limited to, supply chain and inventory management, logistics and transportation, project and innovation management, service and healthcare operations, humanitarian and sustainable operations, behavioral game theory in operations, and human–AI interaction in decision support.

By fostering an open and interdisciplinary exchange through workshops and collaborative projects, the group aims to strengthen the role of behavioral perspectives within operations research and to support the design of operational systems that are both effective and human-centric.

The working group’s workshops are intended as an informal exchange among the disciplines mentioned, with the aim of strengthening connections between the individual subfields.
