Dear colleagues,
We kindly invite you to the fourth working group meeting taking place 13th to 14th of February 2024 at the Fraunhofer Center for Maritime Logistics and Services, Blohmstraße 32, 21079 Hamburg.
The workshop is planned to start Tuesday after lunch and to end Wednesday afternoon. The working group aims at fostering collaboration and state-of-the-art research at the interface of behavioral management science and behavioral & game theory. Targeted research fields include management, economics, computer science, mathematics and other related fields considering game-theoretical approaches. The relevant methodology incorporates cooperative and non-cooperative game theory as well as experiments and field studies.
Registration: To register, please use the form at t1p.de/ke1yi by 15th of December 2023.
Call for Papers: If you would like to present your work, please submit the title and the abstract along with the registration.
Fee: There is no participation fee for GOR members, speakers (incl. lightning talks), and members of the hosting institutions. All other participants will be charged 100 € which is equivalent to the annual membership fee of the GOR. Please indicate in your registration if you are a GOR member.
Further information and a detailed schedule will follow at the beginning of January.
Kind regards, Timo Heinrich & Christina Strobel
The course is aimed at doctoral students in the field of business administration or related subjects which seek to deepen their understanding of mathematical programming methods in modeling and optimization. Successful participants will be able to:

Registration Deadline: 7. Januar 2024
November 6-9, 2023 in Berkeley, California
Simons Laufer Mathematical Sciences Institute (SLMath)
Priority Funding Application Deadline: August 31, 2023
Established researchers, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students in all related fields and industry are invited to join world-renowned mathematicians, computer scientists, economists, and other experts at the Simons Laufer Mathematical Sciences Institute (SLMath), formerly MSRI, in Berkeley, California at „Algorithms, Approximation, and Learning in Market and Mechanism Design“ from November 6-9, 2023.
Workshop registration is open for both in-person and online-only attendees. Those who plan to attend via Zoom only will receive workshop links in advance of the event. Registration is open through the event dates.
SLMath workshops are free of charge to attend, thanks to the generous support of our funders, including the National Science Foundation and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.
Algorithms, Approximation, and Learning in Market and Mechanism Design
In recent years, economists and computer scientists have collaborated with mathematicians, operations research experts, and practitioners to improve the design and operations of real-world marketplaces. Such work relies on robust feedback between theory and practice, inspiring new mathematics closely linked – and directly applicable – to market and mechanism design questions.
This workshop is aimed at exploring core subjects in the field of market and mechanism design, such as the design of non-convex auction markets, the design of matching markets with preferences, algorithmic mechanism design, and learning in games. These topics are interrelated and deeply rooted in mathematics and computer science. Each day of the 4-day workshop is devoted to one of these topics with talks by leading scholars in the field and panel discussions on major open problems.
Workshop Organizers: Martin Bichler (Technical University of Munich), Péter Biró (KRTK, Eotvos Lorand Research Network)
Featured Workshop Presenters & Panelists
Monday, November 6, 2023: Matching Markets without Money
Tuesday, November 7, 2023: Non-Convex Auction Markets
(Attendee reception follows Tuesday’s events)
Wednesday, November 8, 2023: Algorithmic Mechanism Design
Thursday, November 9, 2023: Learning in Games and Markets
Funding Support & Resources for Workshop Attendees
Funding applications submitted by the priority deadline receive full consideration; later applications are subject to remaining funds. Awards are typically made eight weeks before the workshop. Groups underrepresented in research-intensive contexts including women, gender-expansive individuals, minorities, and mathematicians and related scholars not located at research centers are welcomed and encouraged to apply.
Resources for Workshop Attendees: SLMath is pleased to be able to offer a private room for nursing parents. Childcare grants are available for researchers with children under the age of 18 (limited to U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents, and foreign visitors with a visa status that allows for compensation, such as a J-1). See website for full details.
